My Heart Is Broken

A living legend has died. The world has lost a racing hero.
We the race community have lost a family member, we loved, respected and admired. Phyllis Ermshar has lost her Soul mate, her best friend, her husband, the love of her life, Don Ermshar.

Don, a Riverside Attorney and former drag boat Champion, succumbed to head injuries sustained during the Cowtown Drag Boat Nationals at Marine Creek Lake, a SDBA sanctioned drag boat race. He will be laid to rest September 14 2009. 11:00am
Crestlawn Memorial Park
11500 Arlington Ave.
Riverside,Ca. 92505
951-689-1441

We will be visiting Phyllis at her home, so if anyone wants to send any messages we will gladly pass them on, or simply contact her directly, she would love to hear from you and needs people around her who truly care.

Phyllis and Don met 30 years ago and in all that time were apart only 4 days. They worked together, raced together and at the end of each grueling day, would hang out with their favorite people, each other.

Phyllis is trying hard to be strong and keep it together. When Scott and I spoke to her on Friday, she cried, "My heart is broken". What can one possibly say or do to alleviate that?

I cannot imagine the pain she is enduring and we pray to God that he gives her peace and heals her heart.

Phyllis, spent an enormous amount of her spare time, as a Volunteer for the RESP. Racers Emergency Support Program. The organization was formed to collect donations and provide financial support to racers in need.

She has spent countless days in hospitals across the country, consoling and helping victims and families of injured racers. Her support meant a great deal to the many families and has been greatly appreciated by all of the members of various race associations across the nation.

Phyllis allocated herself, as the need arose. She faithfully raised and allocated money, to help alleviate mortgage payments, lost income and medical expenses of the race accident victims and their families.

Now, Phyllis is the victim and her husband isn't struggling with rehab, her husband , a fierce fighter failed to win the battle of his life, leaving Phyllis a widow.

Who will be there for Phyllis?

We will, her extended family, the race community.

As Don lay lifeless in the hospital, breathing with the aid of a Respirator Breathing Apparatus, Phyllis spent everyday by Dons side, praying, yet knowing his head injuries were irrevokable.

When a love one is lost, some of us are able to accelerate the healing process by buring ourselves in work. Phyllis will not have that option. Dons law practice came to a standstill, and without Don the business came to a grinding halt. Phyllis, a legal secretary to Don has lost everything she held dear and has also lost her job.

You can help.

Your donations can help Phyllis navigate through this difficult time; no amount is too big or too small and any amount will be received as a true blessing.

Don Ermshars passing has left a gaping hole in our hearts. Contributing to Phyllis will not heal her heart any faster, but it will help alleviate the financial burden of funeral arrangements and upcoming expenses associated with Dons death.

Checks can be made payable to:

The Estate of Don Ermshar

132 West Commonwealth Avenue
Fullerton, CA 92832-1909.
